We offer a free second opinion! In 1988, Nichols and Phipps introduced the free second opinion to the Heating and Air Conditioning industry in the Northern Virginia area. It states: "If another service company has condemned your heatpump or airconditioning compressor, or furnance heat exchanger, call us for a free “second opinion." Your only requirement is to provide us with an invoice from the other company that outlines the diagnosis. The new CFS/Nichols and Phipps will continue this great tradition. In the early years of this service, fully 8 out of 10 of the first opinions that we examined were incorrect. With minor repairs many of these pieces of equipment are still operating today. In the last few years this number has not dramatically changed. We are still finding on average that over half of the first opinions are still incorrect. Also, most first opinions are given by “technicians” that earn commissions on the sales of equipment and/or services. Our commitment to providing the second opinion still stands and even though we have seen it copied, we know that the majority of those coming out to give the second opinion are commissioned sales or service people. CFS/Nichols and Phipps service technicians do NOT earn commissions from their services or recommendations. We do not employ commissioned sales people. If you need or want to replace your heating or cooling equipment, we will send a technically capable individual to fill your request first by what you need and second by what you want based on its ability to fulfill your needs.
